The coupon that won her heart
Her Mom knew that if he used a coupon, it had to be love.
April 1987. My first trip to Colorado to visit Jody.
The last day of my visit, I was searching the Yellow Pages (!) for a dinner spot with a local flair. I spotted a place called The Mountain Man Saloon, which featured bison steaks, fried rattlesnake and Rocky Mountain oysters (The menu read, “It ain’t seafood!).
But what really sold me was the coupon in the Yellow Pages for $25 off. “We gotta go there!”, I said, practically bouncing with excitement.
So we went and snapped this photo during dinner. Me posing under a buffalo head. (There may just have been a little alcohol involved. Just sayin’.)
After my trip, Jody was talking with her mom and told her about my visit and how excited she was to go to this total dive with me, finishing with, “And he found a great coupon too!“
That’s the moment when her mom knew that I had Jody’s heart.
Cora told me years later, “I knew it had to be love, because Jody would never go out with anybody that used a coupon”.
Love you all
